The Color Blue

The Color Blue – ‘Horse Under Big Sky’.

I know I’ve shown you this one before, because it’s featured on my wall calendar 2018, but I did not yet blog about it and being the ‘nerd’ that I am, I need to blog all these paintings Chronologically. So hereby. Most questions in social have been about the color blue, in this one.

“What color is that?” “What color blue you always bring?” Well, this is a turquoise blue mix. ‘Fauled up’ with a gray. Has a yellowish underlayer, down towards the horizon it turns into another blue. Probably a bit of ultramarine. I have many different blues, all you can find really. When I finish one, I move to what else I have. These are all experiments. Therefore it keeps to be hard to ever get a similar piece. I forget mixes, forget outcomes. Part of the fun. Part of these experiments.

Plus it doesn’t really matter, how to create a mix, mixes. It’s about what’s out there, that stimulates you to take either one blue. I know painters who keep a fixed set of colors, nevermind which subject to paint. Although handy, I would get bored. There are so many choices, perhaps you should test out what each Blue does!

PS My newest finding is Indianthrene Blue!!
